General questions

The first plant Catherine didn't kill was an ivy plant — but there were a number of casualties along the way! It was also her grandmother's name (who was a wonderful gardener), so there's a double tribute to the importance of plants (and nice people).

Ivie is the sister company of Callia Flowers, a proudly Winnipeg-based company (now national across Canada). Ivie and Callia are both still privately owned, not franchised, and have an amazing team of really great people behind every delivery.

Our box is designed really intentionally to:

  1. Protect the fragile plant leaves!
  2. Be as green as we can: it's made from 80%+ post-consumer material and is 100% recyclable.
  3. Encourage you to re-use it for good – like filling it with food or clothes for your local shelter.

All about the plants

They're all proudly born and raised Canadian, mostly out of British Columbia.

We use it to mean that we can get what's the best quality and price at any given time. That means we choose to use certain plants just for a short season or others not at all.

We also choose colours and textures that makes us think of the season we're in: cypress is way more appropriate in December than May!

We choose our plant varieties for the novice gardener: so they're really (really) resilient and easy to care for! We believe that everyone should be able to care for plants, and this is a great entry-level option. No green thumb required!

We've picked our plant varieties really carefully, so we only have 3 kinds at a time. If you're a plant connoisseur: first, you're awesome! Second, we probably won't have the specific variety you're looking for. Head to a local garden centre and they should be able to help!

It depends! If it's nice out, we'll leave the box on the front porch or in a safe, secure area. In non-covid-19 times, if it’s too hot or cold, we'll find a nice neighbour to hold it, and leave a note on the recipient’s door to let them know where it’s being held. We'll also notify the sender in an email. For covid-19, we're delivering contactless: we'll call/text on the way and then leave the box safely on the front porch.

Our plants are carefully packed in foam and a box so they'll be safe and sound!
